Recent progress of metal‐based nanomaterials with anti‐tumor biological effects for enhanced cancer therapy

Metal-based nanomaterials have attracted broad attention recently due to their unique biological physical and chemical properties after entering tumor cells, namely effects. In particular, the abilities of Ca2+ modulate T cell receptors activation, K+ regulate stem differentiation, Mn2+ activate STING pathway, Fe2+/3+ induce ferroptosis enhance catalytic therapy, make metal ions metal-based play crucial roles in cancer treatments. Therefore, superior advantages characteristics microenvironment, we will summarize recent progress anti-tumor effects nanomaterials. Based on different this review mainly focuses following five aspects: (1) metal-enhanced radiotherapy sensitization, (2) (3) ferroptosis, (4) pyroptosis, (5) immunotherapy. At same time, shortcomings therapy are also discussed, future research directions been prospected.
